West Jasper School District Seamless Summer Option Media Release

All STUDENTS in the West Jasper School District will eat FREE for the 2021-2022 SCHOOL YEAR. The West Jasper School District is pleased to announce that it will be participating under the National School Lunch and Breakfast Program, “Seamless Summer Option (SSO)” for duration of the 2021-2022 school year. This program, while typically only available during the summer months, will continue to extend free meals to all students from kindergarten to 12th grade. According to the USDA, this option maintains the nutrition standards of the standard school meal programs – including a strong emphasis on providing fruits and vegetables, milk, whole grains, and sensible calorie levels. This option also provides flexibility for schools to further customize their meal service design to fit their local needs.

Nutrition is a cornerstone of learning, and the West Jasper School District is proud to participate in this program to ensure the nutritional needs of every child are fulfilled; enabling our students to attain their greatest potential.

TO ALL PARENTS: You will still be required to fill out a meal form even though your child is eating free for the school year. Filling out the form will ensure that federal program dollars are appropriated to the district. The district needs these funds to operate and provide much needed assistance to all students. Filling out a meal form may qualify your family for Pandemic Electronic Benefits Transfer (P-EBT) assistance. Filling out this application will not impact your child from receiving free meals in this coming school year.

    Adult meal prices are:

    Breakfast:              District Employee $2.25                     Non-Employee $2.50

    Lunch:                    District Employee $3.50                     Non-Employee $4.00

If you have any further questions about the free meal program or about filling out a meal form, please contact Sabrina Page Jones, Child Nutrition Director, at (601) 425-8500, Ext. 1008.

This institution is an equal opportunity provider.
